ENCODE-R (ENCODE Retriever) is a
stand-alone browser for ENCODE-FM
The primary purpose of ENCODE-R is for users
of ENCODE-FM outside of an electronic medical record to find codes in a
stand alone system. The browser displays the term, the ENCODE-FM unique
number, and all the maps to ICPC (International Classification of Primary
Care), ICD-10, ICD-9-CM, and Ontario diagnostic codes
The browser is very simple to operate, and
allows multiple ways of viewing ENCODE-FM terms.:
- A simple search for the initial parts of
any word (e.g. "lupus" finds 5 terms including lupus
pericarditis, and discoid lupus)
- The user can then pick one of the list and
- see its position in the hierarchical
structure of ENCODE,
- show synonyms, or
- drill either down or up 3 levels to
choose a more appropriate term if desired.
- The displays can be toggled to see French
or English.
- ENCODE-R currently searches only the
English terms, but a French browser will be available when requested.
- Codes can be found by starting with ICPC
as an index to ENCODE. The user picks an ICPC term from a dropdown
list of ICPC-2 terms, and the browser displays all the ENCODE terms
mapped to it. (e.g. the ICPC code S02 - pruritus finds four ENCODE
terms, related to skin pruritus)
- The user can type an ICD-10 code and see
all the terms mapped to it. (e.g. typing j45 returns 12 terms related
to asthma)
THE ABOVE EXAMPLES ARE SHOWN IN THE` "SCREENSHOTS" LINK.
